Chapter 90: Poseidon doesn’t like Greek and Roman mythology

Chapter 90: Typhon (2)

Unlike the humans on the surface—who easily protected themselves thanks to Demeter’s blessings—

The realm of the gods was silent.

The sun and moon had lost their light,

And not even the chirping of insects could be heard.

In that quiet world, Zeus and the other gods held their defensive line.

Had this been the original myth, Typhon’s sudden appearance would have sent every god fleeing in terror—except Zeus.

But now?

They were mentally and physically far stronger than their mythological counterparts.

After all, every one of the 11 Olympian gods—except Zeus and Ares—had already experienced Poseidon once.

***

“Whoa! So that’s Typhon!! He’s way scarier than I expected!”

“Hermes, keep flapping around like that and the wings on your sandals will get ripped off. Try being careful for once.”

“Hehe, guess so. I mean—those guys over there look like they could shoot better than my brother.”

“…What?!”

In the original myth, Hermes and Apollo would have turned into a hawk and an owl to flee. But now, both were relaxed and confident.

“Good grief, those men are at it again. Aren’t they tired of this?”

“Haha, well… at least they’re not panicking. Typhon’s aura really is overwhelming.”

“Athena. Don’t lie. At least wipe that smile off your face before you say that.”

Artemis, Athena, and Aphrodite simply chatted casually as they watched the endless tide of enemies stretching across the horizon.

The minor gods—who had been trembling at the sight of Typhon and his forces—

Gained courage after witnessing the Olympians’ composure.

Whispers spread across the ranks.

—Haha… if they look this relaxed, Typhon must not be such a big deal.

—Right? These are the gods who check both Poseidon and Hades. They practically rule a three-way split of the world.

—When you put it like that, Typhon doesn’t seem so terrifying.

—True. The sea gods are way scarier anyway. Especially Lady Eurynome…

—That’s for sure.

Hearing the murmurs, Zeus and Hera—who had feared Typhon’s aura might demoralize the gods—

Exhaled in relief, though their expressions were mixed.

Zeus stood lightly armored, holding his signature blue lightning bolt.

Hera wore a golden laurel crown and held her sacred staff.

Both had worried that Typhon’s appearance would break their army’s morale—

But the situation was the exact opposite.

“…This feels strange.”

“I know. With Hestia and Demeter gone, I thought we’d be in trouble.”

“I mean… do we really have to say it? Looks like we’re benefiting from Brother Poseidon again.”

“Maybe… The younger ones, sure. But I never thought even the lesser gods and spirits would be influenced.”

Hera hadn’t expected it either. But after comparing Typhon to Poseidon—or to Eurynome, whom the gods also referenced— She had to admit something.

No wonder they aren’t afraid.

Hera herself—along with Hestia, Demeter, and Hades—

Had once witnessed Poseidon truly enraged.

Honestly… if that guy gets serious, he’s probably scarier than this thing.

***

Meanwhile, Typhon’s side was just as unimpressed.

—Only Zeus and Hera are worth noting.

The Typhon before them was unexpectedly… ordinary.

Not the monstrous being of myth—

Massive serpentine body, dozens of snake heads, scales of dragons, lava and flame bursting from his flesh.

No.

Instead he appeared as a strikingly handsome middle-aged noble with red hair and reptilian eyes—the only hint of something inhuman.

“That is correct. Other than Zeus, I see no one truly dangerous.”

“Kikikik. Says the guy who couldn’t even manage to kidnap little Persephone properly, hmm?”

“That damned monkey bastard!!!”

Garm—who had failed to kidnap Persephone—

And Asterios, the most violent among the Gigantes,

Were busy glaring at each other instead of focusing on the enemy in front of them.

It was one of Typhon’s greatest weaknesses:

The monsters Typhon created or pulled from Nyx’s underworld and the Gigantes Gaia created to overthrow Zeus were not truly united—

They were simply allies of convenience orbiting Typhon.

—Enough! Olympus is right before us.

Why are you fighting each other now?!

If we go to war like this, we’ll destroy ourselves!!

“…My apologies, Lord Typhon.”

“……”

***

Typhon’s forces were divided into two factions:

1. Typhon’s own creations or those he had liberated from Nyx’s realm.

2. The Gigantes created by Gaia—led by Eurymedon, made specifically to eliminate Zeus alongside Typhon.

Eurymedon’s strength was an unknown—

Rumor said he rivaled Typhon himself.

Yet for some reason, he did not participate in this war.

Rather than joining personally,

He simply lent his troops and observed from afar.

“I wonder how Olympus will fight… No matter how you look at it, unless Poseidon is completely pinned down, Typhon has no chance. Feels like he rushed this.”

“But Typhon is incredibly powerful. He might even conquer Olympus on his own.”

“Well… maybe. Hard to say until we see it.”

***

Meanwhile, as Olympus prepared for war—

The sea gods were facing their own crisis.

Somehow—no one knew how—

After Athena’s visit, the ocean of monsters Poseidon had re-sealed began to emerge again.

And Tiamat’s seal was… half-broken.

“Oh no… wasn’t Hestia supposed to be managing this?”

“Lady Eurynome, we received word— Someone has invaded Hestia’s island, and a fierce battle is happening there. That may be the cause.”

“Tch. Typhon must be behind this. Trying to keep us from joining the battle.”

“Seems that way, sister. The moment Tiamat stirred, the Sea of Oceanus began raging.”

“Amphitrite, is there no way to restrain it?”

“No. Not unless my husband comes here himself.”

“Where is that useless Poseidon anyway?!”

***

Meanwhile, Poseidon—still disguised as Njord—

Lay comfortably on Demeter’s plains, watching the war unfold.

Demeter had hurried off to aid Hestia after hearing about the invasion,

Leaving Poseidon as the only one relaxing.

“My, my… what a harsh world this has become, eh?”

BOOOOM—

The earth shook in response.

A colossal serpent emerged—so large it could swallow the world.

Its black scales and reptilian yellow eyes stared straight at Poseidon.

—So you noticed? Even Demeter was unaware of me.

“Well, even if I look human, my senses aren’t dead. Besides—Demeter’s always been a bit slow on the uptake.”

—That is true. Some beings simply lack talent for detecting battle aura.

The giant serpent and the “human” conversed calmly— But the surroundings told another story.

The serpent’s aura made the grass bow flat; Violent currents of energy carved swirling winds across the field.

The tension between the two was suffocating—

It felt as though they might bare fangs at each other at any moment.

—Truly impressive. For a god of your caliber to feel completely human…

“Well, yeah. But shouldn’t you be fighting Zeus right now? Instead of dragging around those giant-brute buddies of yours?”

—Perhaps.

But it wasn’t difficult to bring them.

Do you think I hid myself all these ages for no reason?

A great many things have allowed me to deepen my power.

“So that’s your plan? Since I’m in human form, you thought this was a good chance to get rid of me?”

—That would certainly be convenient…

But I actually came to make you an offer.

I can’t simply kill my mother’s husband, can I?

Typhon’s serpent avatar flashed its reptilian eyes—

A look that said he believed he already held the advantage.

“Tch. My wife’s son shows up to kill me. What kind of trash-fire family drama is this?”

—Not to kill you, really. You simply need to cooperate. Is that so difficult?

Poseidon glanced at the smug serpent… Then shifted his gaze to the monsters gathered behind it.

Gigantes who looked like they’d been hired with loose change.

Mutants that resembled warped versions of the Gorgons.

Hydra-like beasts.

And even strange eastern yokai-like creatures—imps and oni twisted into abominations.

‘Hah. Those idiots look like Gorgoneion knockoffs… And those Eastern-looking freaks? Immemorial yokai, maybe.’

—And so, you have no one left to help you.

Hestia’s island has already been breached.

The sea is in chaos—Tiamat’s seal is halfway undone.

And the Underworld? Don’t even ask.

Poseidon shook his head, unimpressed by Typhon’s gloating.

It wasn’t that he couldn’t escape.

He simply didn’t want to.

“Tch. Stupid oversized worm. Go eat dirt.”

Poseidon lifted his middle finger, Summoned his Trident, And charged straight at the colossal serpent.

Alone—one spear in hand—Charging a world-slaying monster.

It was the kind of act mortals would call heroic.

“…Damn it. If I’d known, I wouldn’t have sealed myself up so tightly. Now I can’t unseal everything at once— If I release it all in a burst, every human on earth will die from the backlash. Hah… I screwed myself.”

However he viewed it—

***

Typhon’s avatar clashing fiercely with Poseidon was only one part of the chaos.

The war between Olympus and Typhon had erupted in full.

The moment Typhon’s army began moving, The very ground thundered.

—Aaaargh!!!

—Hold formation!

Lock arms with those beside you!

THOOM! THOOM! THOOM!

The sheer weight and mass of the advancing giants sent tremors that even gods struggled to endure.

Unable to hold their footing,

The Olympians took to the sky, Iris leading them upward.

The counterattack began.

Gods mounted on countless flying beasts launched spells and Hephaestus-made bombs from the air.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Explosions lit the battlefield, Filling the air with smoke and choking dust.

Below, hordes of Gigantes and Typhon’s creatures surged forward.

UOOOAAAAA!!!

GROOOOWWWL!!!

“Prepare the bombers!!”

“Squad 1: Set trap magic!

Squad 2: Ready the spike spells!

Everyone else brace for impact—

We don’t know if the barrier can withstand this!!!”

“They’re coming! HOLD!!”

DUDUDUDUDU—

CRAAASH!!!

“Gyaaaah!!”

The Gigantes crashed through the front lines, Scattering fairies and minor gods like rag dolls.

Every swing of their enormous weapons

Sheared limbs, shattered bodies,

And sent divine soldiers flying like broken toys.

—Hold the line!

—We won’t die!! Push back!!

“Kuh—It’s no use! Their strength is overwhelming!!!”

Even as they fought desperately, The barrier finally began to collapse.

Just when the frontline was about to be crushed—

BOOM!

A figure burst forward from the Olympus ranks—

It was Athena, the goddess of war.
